The Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language (CILS) is a certification issued by the University for Foreigners of Siena for foreigners studying the Italian language, divided into different levels of competence. The certification is recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The CELI, institute for the certification of the Italian language, attests the skills and abilities to use the Italian language. The certificates are expendable in the field of work and study. The exams can be taken in Italian at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia or the examination centers affiliated to it.

The PLIDA (Italian Language Project Dante Alighieri) offers a set of opportunities and tools available to those who learn, teach and promote Italian: certification of Italian as a foreign language, updating of teachers, resources and teaching projects, linguistic assistance to migrants and immigrant citizens, ALMA PLIDA teaching materials.
